Bob Stephens is a Managing Director in the Global Insurance Services practice, part of the Forensic & Litigation Consulting segment of FTI Consulting. He possesses deep technical knowledge and experience in risk, regulatory, strategy, operational transformation, capital markets, structured FS products, investment banking, financial reporting and related emerging technologies. His experience spans 30 years as a senior financial services executive.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Stephens was at Grant Thornton (GT) where he worked with the Head of FS Advisory in building the practice and executing strategies to strengthen brand, expand offerings, and advance relationships. He managed delivery of business services involving banks (Citi, HSBC, Barclays, J.P. Morgan) as well as insurance firms (AIG, TIAA, Liberty Mutual, and Assurant).

Projects involved: LIBOR transition, CCAR, MRA/MRIA remediation, op risk program assessment/redesign, CECL implementation, finance transformation, M&A transactions and integration. He was also instrumental in the formulation of Mobius, GT’s specialist co-creation hub operating at the forefront of accelerating business transformation through co-creative, design thinking methods with clients.

Prior to GT, Mr. Stephens worked at KPMG where he was responsible for relationship management and consulting service delivery for select Fortune 50 FS firms such as The Hartford, AXA and Zurich. Before KPMG, he was a Managing Director at Swiss Re Capital Partners, where he oversaw a joint alternative investment group in partnership with Credit Suisse involving private equity, fixed income, asset management and structured financial products.

Later at Swiss Re, Mr. Stephens assumed the role of SVP - Corporate Development, Strategy and Risk at the Americas holding company. In that role he drove all phases surrounding $15 billion of acquisitions, including integration.

Other endeavors included ideating and implementing a global economic analytics system to provide senior management with the ability to evaluate risk adjusted performance across businesses and driving the implementation of robust risk/compliance processes involving ERM, ECM, ORM and SOX 404.

Mr. Stephens also worked as a Managing Director at the Manhattan Group and Colonnade Advisors. In these roles he worked on private placements, fairness opinions, valuations, financial restructurings, M&A and strategy for publicly traded companies, privately held businesses and financial sponsors.
