Shawn Martinez is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Los Angeles. Mr. Martinez has gained experience in complex claims and events since June 2000 and has worked on large scale litigation engagements requiring data intensive analysis. Mr. Martinez has extensive experience in the design and implementation of complex electronic data management systems, performing and coordinating analyses, directing large project teams and reporting.
Mr. Martinez has provided consulting services in defense of mortgage backed security (MBS) litigations. Assisted in the development of a re-underwriting application and associated rebuttal response application designed to answer loan-level allegations related to mortgages that comprised the pools underlying the securitizations at issue. Supervised litigation support activities such as data analytics and reporting of information contained in databases, deposition preparation, expert report writing, and various quantitative and qualitative analyses.
Mr. Martinez has developed a methodology and a model for distribution of a multi-billion dollar settlement associated with the large class action litigation and was responsible for ensuring the completeness and accuracy of underlying financial data. Mr. Martinez has performed ad hoc and recurring analyses for client use and courtroom exhibits related to litigation support activities in U.S District Court.
Mr. Martinez has worked on matters involving data extraction and modeling to quantify potential damages in disputes involving multiple parties. He provided assistance in monitoring and complying with a court-mandated consent decree and conducted extensive interviews of the client’s management and staff to facilitate process change implementation and database design.
Mr. Martinez has been responsible for validating the quality of client data for the purpose of querying and performing analyses on financial and accounting information contained in large-scale SQL Server database. He developed written and quantitative analyses that described data completeness validation tests.
Mr. Martinez provided extensive services to law firms and internal counsel involving complex claims in a variety of areas, including damage analysis; settlement claims administration; compliance; financial issues; intellectual property and disputes.
Some of Mr. Martinez’s clients and engagements have included various financial institutions and banks, Department of Justice, Department of Interior, Alabama Department of Transportation, various construction litigations, and a large scale internal litigation project for a global professional services firm.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Martinez spent one and a half years in the Forensic Dispute Advisory Services practice of KPMG’s Phoenix office, and two years with the Value Solutions practice at Arthur Andersen.
Mr. Martinez holds a B.B.A. with concentrations in financial management and general management from the University of New Mexico.
