Eric Nelson is a Managing Director in the Technology Transformation practice and specializes in information and technology, transformation technology and transactional technology consulting. He has over 38 years of experience consulting across a broad range of small, mid-market and international companies. He has experience across many industries and current technologies, including telecom; utilities; finance; transportation; manufacturing; pharmaceutical; healthcare; retail; cloud; enterprise resource planning (“ERP”); IoT; IT infrastructure, including data and voice networks; data centers; IT vendor selection and management; and cyber security.
Mr. Nelson is an expert executive consultant in all IT aspects of spin-offs, carve-outs (buy- and sell-side), acquisition merger integration, and information and technology due diligence, as well as back-office and enterprise resource planning (“ERP”) applications,; especially as they extend though configure/price/quote (CPQ), billing, ordering, customer relationship management and the entire quote-to-cash and procure-to-pay lifecycle.
Mr. Nelson’s experience includes being the Chief Information Officer, Chief Technology Officer and IT executive management for several companies, including Verizon, Megapath, Netifice, and e.spire. He has worked at many of the top consulting firms, including Ernst and Young, Cap Gemini America and TMNG. Recent consulting clients include many of the top private equity firms, including Level3, Trace3, NFL Players Benefits Office and British Telecom.
Mr. Nelson’s information and technology background includes digital transformation consulting, agile/dev-ops projects, enterprise business, and technical architecture consulting. Mr. Nelson has developed IT strategic and operational roadmaps for multiple commercial businesses, non-governmental organizations and non-profits, including ERP, back- and front-office applications, infrastructure and digital transformation. Mr. Nelson has also managed application modernization projects, including emerging technologies assessments and recommendations. His business transformation experience includes IT organizational modernization and transformation for an international media and entertainment company.
Mr. Nelson’s recent implementation experience includes ERP implementation for an international recording and digital rights management company, business intelligence and data analytic implementations across multiple industries, and the Smart Grid service-oriented architecture integration implementation for a large utility company. He has also conducted a cloud migration and virtual desktop projects and other IT infrastructure-related projects.
Mr. Nelson has prepared and delivered expert witness testimony in not only civil cases, but also in state regulatory commissions. He is also certified in blockchain and has robotic process automation experience.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Nelson was a Managing Principal at Synaptitude Consulting, where he specialized in IT strategic consulting, custom software development and IT infrastructure consulting. He holds a B.A. in political science and computer science from George Washington University. He is a member of several non-profit boards, for-profit advisory committees and is the Treasurer for Glen Echo Park Partnership for the Arts (Maryland).
