Gregg Peat is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting in the Forensic & Litigation segment and is based in Oregon. Mr. Peat uses his experience in accounting, auditing, valuation, and finance to lead dispute and forensic investigatory engagements mainly related to financial and accounting matters. Mr. Peat has extensive experience advising clients involved with merger & acquisition disputes, securities litigation, financial and conduct investigations, and is adept at unwinding complex issues and providing innovative and practical solutions to his clients.
Mr. Peat’s dispute experience includes advising on complex matters involving technical accounting, auditing, and valuation and has included assisting clients and their legal counsel obtain, analyze, and evaluate case materials, develop case strategies, prepare and submit expert witness reports, and support expert witnesses through depositions and trials. His investigations experience includes assisting public and private companies, boards of directors, audit committees, and legal counsel with technical accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory investigations for corporations operating domestically and abroad.
Mr. Peat has an in-depth knowledge of US generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and has extensive Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulatory experience. He also has practical experience identifying risks in global corporations and designing and implementing internal controls within organizations to mitigate risks and comply with regulatory requirements.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Peat provided audit and advisory services at the accounting firm KPMG. His experience at KPMG included an international assignment to the Netherlands where he provided US accounting and financial reporting expertise to enterprises filing securities in the US from abroad. Mr. Peat’s experience providing audit and accounting advisory services informed his technical knowledge and proficiency in managing large global projects.
Mr. Peat has led the instruction of a variety of technical accounting and auditing trainings for both foreign and domestic audiences. This has included presenting on forensic accounting topics, technical accounting, audit methodologies, SOX 404 compliance and sampling courses.
Mr. Peat holds B.S. degrees in both Accountancy and Finance from Oregon State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), and Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV). He is also currently serving as an Oregon State University Accounting Advisory Board Member, advising on the academic and operational on goings of the University’s accounting department, and recently served on the Oregon Board of Accountancy’s Laws and Rules Committee as Committee Chairman.
