Tom Powell

Tom Powell specializes in providing transaction and restructuring advisory services to companies and their stakeholders, including representing companies, lenders, shareholders and management in both formal and out-of-court restructurings and cross-border cases. Mr. Powell’s industry experience includes real estate, retail, mining, construction, manufacturing, hospitality and financial services.

Mr. Powell has worked on numerous statutory restructuring appointments and court-sanctioned mandates in Canada, including engagements as a Monitor under the Companies Creditors' Arrangement Act (“CCAA”) and appointments under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act for a wide range of public and private companies.

Mr. Powell’s recent assignments include acting as Financial Advisor to the senior secured lender syndicate of an oil and gas services company under Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings; serving as the court-appointed Monitor under the CCAA proceedings of a tungsten mining company, a civil construction company and a publicly listed footwear retailer; and serving as the court-appointed receiver of a large private homebuilder, a heavy construction company and an independent living facility for seniors. Mr. Powell has also acted as interim Vice President of Finance during the restructuring of a multi-location heavy equipment dealership.

Mr. Powell holds many professional designations and is active in many organizations. He currently serves as a Director and is a past-President of the Northwest Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association.
