On the 27th of July the South African team hosted a webinar which was facilitated by Petrus Marais, Senior Managing Director and South African Practice lead on Deferred Prosecution Agreements: A solution to prosecuting backlog. Panel of experts Adv. Hermione Cronje, Adv. Kate Hofmeyr , Adv. Gilbert Swats and Karam Singh shared valuable views and insights on the possibility of using deferred prosecution agreements to tackle corruption. The session was well attended from across Corporate and Legal South Africa who were engaged and was testament to the need for these types of discussions and debates.
Companies must comply with international anti-bribery laws or risk severe penalties while facing growing public expectations of good ethical behaviour and pressure from stakeholders to improve results.
