Alex Burton

Alex Burton is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and quantum expert witness with more than 20 years of commercial management, claims and disputes experience. During his career, Alex has worked for main contractors, sub-contractors and consultancies on high-profile construction and engineering projects across the UK, Europe, Africa and the Gulf Cooperation Council (“GCC”).

Alex’s project experience includes the construction of airports, mixed-use hotel and residential developments, process plants (including water treatment plants and oil refineries), floating production storage and offloading (“FPSOs”), highways, offshore marine civil engineering works, hospitals and Class 1 nuclear structures.

Alex has been appointed as a quantum expert on matters in the Technology and Construction Court, as well as in arbitration and adjudication proceedings. He also has extensive experience acting as a lead assistant to industry-leading quantum and delay experts in international arbitration matters and providing support to counsel with the preparation of pleadings and the cross examination of opposing experts.

Alex is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors. Alex has a B.Sc. in Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying, in addition to an M.Sc. in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution from King’s College London (with distinction), where he was awarded the best overall graduate and best dissertation by the Society of Construction Law.
