Alex Burton

Alex Burton is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and experienced quantum expert witness with more than two decades of experience in commercial management, construction claims and dispute resolution. Alex has worked across the UK, Europe, Africa, the GCC and Asia for main contractors, subcontractors and leading consultancy practices on major construction and engineering projects.

Alex has been appointed as a quantum expert in international arbitration, litigation before the Technology and Construction Court, statutory adjudications and dispute board proceedings. He has given oral evidence under cross-examination in international arbitration, including concurrent expert evidence (“hot-tubbing”). He also has extensive experience acting as lead assistant to market-leading quantum and delay experts and supporting legal teams with the preparation of pleadings and cross-examinations of opposing experts.

Alex’s project portfolio includes the construction of airports, mixed-use hotel and residential developments; process plants including water treatment plants and oil refineries; floating production, storage and offloading units (“FPSOs”); highways; offshore marine civil engineering works; hospitals; and Class-1 nuclear structures. He brings specialist quantity surveying expertise in the valuation of claims arising on technically complex and high-value disputes.

Alex holds a B.Sc. in Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying and a M.Sc. in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution (with Distinction) from King’s College London. He was awarded the Best Overall Graduate and Best Dissertation by the Society of Construction Law. Additionally, he is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors.
