Arthur D'Alessio specializes in the development of strategic tax, operating and structural solutions for private equity funds and real estate investment trusts ("REIT's") within the practice's Business Tax Advisory group.
Mr. D'Alessio's service concentrations include acquisition due diligence, federal and state income taxation with a focus on real estate matters, partnerships and REIT taxation, tax-structured dispositions of real estate, foreign investment in U.S. real property and employee co-investment vehicles.
Over the course of his more than 15 years with the organization, Mr. D'Alessio has led acquisition due diligences involving more than $18 billion in multi-family residential, retail and commercial office properties. These transactions require extensive quantitative and qualitative analysis and a comprehensive understanding of each asset class.
Relevant experience includes the implementation of a co-investment structure for a private equity fund using a combination of REIT and leveraged C corp blockers to effectively accommodate the ECI and UBTI sensitivities of the fund's foreign and domestic tax-exempt investors. Also, the design of multiple performance-based employee co-investment vehicles for a diversified closely-held investment company.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. D'Alessio was a Tax Manager at The Schonbraun McCann Group ("SMG"), a dedicated real estate advisory firm that was acquired by FTI Consulting in 2008. Prior to that, Mr. D'Alessio started his career in the audit and tax practice at Moore Stephens P.C., serving both public and private clients from a broad range of industries, including construction, hospitality, manufacturing and professional services.
