Ben Johnson is a chartered accountant and a Senior Managing Director in the Economic & Financial Consulting practice. He has been based in Hong Kong since 2015.
Ben provides expert financial advice in contentious and non-contentious contexts, including as an expert witness in international arbitration and litigation matters, as an expert determiner, and as an advisor in transactions and regulatory matters. His experience includes valuations of assets and businesses, the quantification of lost profits, advice relating to accounting matters, and advice in the context of competition investigations.
Ben has worked on matters in various industries, including technology, real estate, financial services, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, steel, retail, energy, hospitality, infrastructure, and telecoms. Over the course of his career, Ben has prepared or assisted with the preparation of more than 100 expert reports across some 60 matters, for submission to Hong Kong, Singapore, UK, US, Irish, Indian and Cayman Islands courts, as well as in arbitrations under ICC, HKIAC, CIETAC, UNCITRAL, SIAC, AAA and CRCICA rules.
Ben also delivers training courses to law firms on the quantification of damages, valuation, working with and cross-examining expert witnesses, and other issues. He has published articles on topics including the assessment of country risk in the quantification of damages.
Ben is a Practicing Associate Member of the Academy of Experts and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He was listed in the ICAEW’s International Order of Merit. He also holds a first-class honours degree in Economics from the University of Warwick.
