Ben Johnson is a chartered accountant and a Senior Managing Director in the Economic & Financial Consulting practice. He has been based in Hong Kong since 2015.
Mr. Johnson provides expert financial advice in contentious contexts, including as an expert witness in international arbitration and litigation proceedings, as an expert determiner, and as an advisor in regulatory matters. His experience includes valuations of assets and businesses, the quantification of lost profits, advice relating to accounting matters, and advice in the context of competition investigations. Mr. Johnson has been appointed as an expert witness in numerous litigation and arbitration matters.
Mr. Johnson has worked on matters in various industries, including financial services, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, retail, energy, infrastructure and telecoms. Over the course of his career, he has been involved in the preparation of more than 70 expert reports across some 50 matters, for submission to Hong Kong, UK, US, Irish and Cayman Islands courts, as well as in arbitrations under ICC, AAA, HKIAC, CIETAC, UNCITRAL, SIAC and CRCICA rules.
Mr. Johnson also delivers training courses to law firms on the quantification of damages, valuation, working with and cross-examining expert witnesses, and other issues. He has published articles on topics including the assessment of country risk in the quantification of damages.
Mr. Johnson is a Practicing Associate Member of the Academy of Experts and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He was listed in the ICAEW’s International Order of Merit. He also holds a first-class honours degree in Economics from the University of Warwick.
