Brian Chan, a lead data scientist in FTI Consulting’s AI practice, is an expert with a distinguished track record in devising high-quality AI models that enhance organisational efficiency. Harnessing the power of AI, Brian excels at identifying trends and anomalous behaviors in financial transactions with extremely high accuracy.

As a Senior Director of the AI practice, Brian has experience working on various international projects, including transaction monitoring for high-end financial institutions and sanction scanning in large tech companies. His consistent delivery of accurate AI models offers outstanding service reliability to his clients.

Acknowledged for implementing advanced generative AI models, Brian’s innovative solutions see global usage within the firm and amongst FTI Consulting’s clients. His academic background in astrophysics and early application of AI methodologies in academic research have contributed to a comprehensive approach that combines theory with practicality. Additionally, his research in astrophysics has been published in top-tier journals, including the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (‘MNRAS’) and The Astrophysical Journal.

Brian is proficient in generative pretrained transformers (‘GPTs’); deep learning models, including fully connected neural networks, convolutional neural networks, long short-term memory (‘LSTM’) and autoencoders; and machine learning, such as k-means, random forests, Minimum Covariance Determinant (‘MCD’), Histogram-based Outlier Score (‘HBOS’) and Density Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (‘DBSCAN’). Additionally, he is adept at cloud computing, including Amazon Web Services’ (‘AWS’) Sagemaker and Google Cloud Platform (‘GCP’); computer infrastructure, such as Compute Unified Devices Architecture (‘CUDA’), CUDA Deep Neural Network (‘CuDNN’) and NVIDIA stack; and standard Python libraries, including tensorflow, keras, pytorch and scikit-learn. Brian is also experienced with robotic process automation (‘RPA’), UiPath and Python.

Apart from his technical proficiencies, Brian is a certified scrum master. He brings agile methodologies in running AI projects and his proficiency in agility serves as a cornerstone that drives his team to deliver exemplary models swiftly.
