Ching Watson, Ph.D. is a Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s Securities, Commodities and Derivatives practice. She has more than 18 years of experience consulting with clients in economics and finance matters. Dr. Watson assists clients on a broad range of complex litigation and advisory matters, involving securities and derivatives, investment, trading and hedging strategies, valuations and damages analysis.
Dr. Watson brings in-depth expertise in finance, economics and statistics, to assist clients with complex litigation and advisory matters. She has a proven track record of translating clients’ business problems into actionable data analyses, conducting and leading teams of professionals to conduct, economic, financial and data analyses, and preparing expert reports and oral testimony, including in collaboration with academic expert witnesses. She provides clear, incisive findings to both technical and general audiences, and delivers impactful results to meet clients’ needs.
Dr. Watson’s work includes empirical analysis, valuation and damages estimation across financial instruments and markets, including structured finance products, illiquid securities, repo financing, securities lending and business valuation. She has worked extensively with attorneys at top U.S. and Canadian law firms, and regulatory agencies in matters for financial institutions and across a spectrum of industries.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Dr. Watson was a Vice President at Analysis Group, where she consulted and delivered economic and finance analyses to clients, gaining favorable outcomes and litigation wins in a large number of high-profile cases. Examples of her work include analyzing the investment strategies and solvency of large hedge funds, valuations of securities and derivatives, risk management relating to structured finance products in large institutions, statistical patterns of alleged insider trading, impacts of corporate disclosures on stock price, the economic reasonableness of the investment options for employee retirement savings plans and damages estimates in securities fraud and breach of contract matters.
Dr. Watson holds a B.S. in Mathematics and an M.A. in Economics from National Taiwan University, as well as a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles.
