Colin Hassett is a Managing Director in the Power and Utilities practice at FTI Consulting providing expertise in utility operations and engineering. Mr. Hassett has over 15 years of operational experience in the electric and gas utility sector, with areas of expertise in smart grid systems, power systems design, construction project management, project management office design and leadership, and business process improvement projects. Notably, Mr. Hassett’s efforts in business process improvement projects have driven the attainment of challenging strategic business goals.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Hassett worked for National Grid for 10 years serving many engineering, project management and process improvement roles during his tenure. Reporting to various senior leaders, Mr. Hassett completed several business initiatives and process improvement projects, including the implementation of a process safety management program and the development of a contract controls code driven by the UK Bribery Act of 2010.
Mr. Hassett also has extensive experience in emergency planning, having led National Grid’s emergency response improvement program. The initial eight months of project work led to a demonstrated reduction of restoration time of 20 percent when compared to similar major events. Other emergency planning responsibilities included assisting the system-wide roll out of Incident Command System, business continuity planning, business resilience planning and emergency response training development and implementation.
Mr. Hassett was also responsible for supporting National Grid’s wide scale implementation of process and performance excellence through the development and implementation of a project management office and thought leadership for governance design, process management frameworks and design standardization.
Mr. Hassett holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University and an M.S. in Power Systems Management from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He is a certified Project Management Professional, is trained and certified in Incident Command System modules 100, 200 and 300, and is a trained Six Sigma Green Belt from National Grid.
