Dan Margolis is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Los Angeles. Dan is in the Corporate Reputation practice, where he specializes in media relations, executive communications, thought leadership and issues management.
Dan brings 19 years of experience in global communications in a wide range of industries including financial and professional services, entertainment/media and real estate. Dan provides trusted counsel and urgent response for senior executives, media strategy and security related issues.
Dan has developed prominent market reports featuring notable CEOs, board members and key influencers featured in the most prominent media outlets. His client corporate communications programs and thought leadership creation have elevated brands and generated effective client visibility in the U.S., Latin America, Asia and Europe. He specializes in executive communications and has worked with CEOs and senior executives extensively in media training and preparation for interviews.
Dan has led engagements and provided counsel to clients and C-level executives in a variety of sectors. His financial and professional services clients have included Allstate, CTBC Bank, HSBC, Raymond James, Boyden Global Executive Search, Greenberg Traurig, and Perkins Coie. He has also represented industry clients including Transocean, Energy in Depth, OfficeMax and WEX.
Previously, Dan served for five years as Head of Margolis & Company, a business communications firm he founded. Prior to his agency positions, he was a Senior Director at Korn/Ferry International, where he created and launched the firm’s first CEO Vision Study. The study included in-person interviews with more than 200 international CEOs and was featured in The Wall Street Journal. Previously, he served as Director of Communications for former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan. He began his career as a journalist with Variety, Newsweek and the Los Angeles Times reporting from Los Angeles, New York and Mexico City.
Dan is an Executive Member of the Los Angeles Business Council and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. He has also served on the Governing Board of LA’s Best Friends, a fundraising unit of an after school enrichment program. Dan holds a B.A. in political science from UCLA and a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University. He is fluent in Spanish.
