Dan Wikel advises clients on corporate turnarounds and restructurings, lender workout situations, transaction advisory services, business assessments and capital raises. Mr. Wikel has significant experience in managing both middle-market and large/mega bankruptcy cases and related matters. His financial and operational expertise spans strategic planning, capital advisory, investment analysis and operational improvement through identification of revenue enhancements and cost improvements.
Mr. Wikel has served as a financial advisor and interim manager and expert witness to companies in various industries including aerospace and airlines, transportation, logistics and distribution, retail and consumer products, financial services, payroll services, construction, contractual/project-based firms, modular home building, packaging and forest products, and general manufacturing and related operations.
Representative examples of Mr. Wikel’s engagement experience include providing advisory services to and working with constituents involved with AcuSport, Air Jamaica, Aloha Airlines, Allen Systems Group, Argo Turboserve Corporation, Atlas Air Lines, Boomerang Tube, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Air, IOIPay/Interlogic, Great Lakes Aviation, Los Angeles Airport Authority (LAX), Nephron Pharmaceuticals, Rochester Drug Corporation, Silver Airways, Solutia Corporation, VAS Aero, UniGroup, United Fixtures- Interlake and United Airlines.
In particular, as a leading financial advisor to large, private and public companies, Mr. Wikel led the UAL and United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, Solutia Corporation, and Resolute (AbitibiBowater) bankruptcy cases, working closely with the company’s investment bankers and attorneys. In addition to assisting on bankruptcy preparations, first-day orders, and DIP and exit financing, he managed several aspects of the deal on a day-to-day basis and was a participating member of the company’s restructuring office. Mr. Wikel was also an advisor to other publicly held companies and led the successful refinancing/recapitalization processes, including for Federal Signal Corporation and OrthoPediatrics Corporation.
Mr. Wikel currently serves as an Independent Director to two logistic companies, both within the Saybrook Capital portfolio. He is also a past Independent Director to Capstone Nutrition, a Medley Capital and Benefit Street portfolio company. Capstone is the fourth largest supplement contract manufacturer in the vitamins, minerals and supplements (“VMS”) industry.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Wikel was a founding member of Huron Consulting Group in 2002 and led the Chicago/Midwest office through 2020. Before Huron, Mr. Wikel was a member of Arthur Andersen’s Corporate Restructuring practice. Prior to that, he led the FP&A group at Zenith Electronics Corporation and was involved in the turnaround, bankruptcy and sale of the business to LG Group. Mr. Wikel also held various financial positions with the Tenneco Inc. organization (J.I. Case and Tenneco Packaging / Packaging Corporation of America (PCA). Starting his career, he worked in the audit practice of KPMG.
Mr. Wikel holds an M.B.A. in Finance, Marketing & Organizational Behavior from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University and a B.S. in Accounting from Marquette University. He is active with Turnaround Management Association (TMA), currently serving on the TMA Global Investment and Chapter Resource & Response Counsel (CRRC) committees. He previously served as President of the TMA Chicago/Midwest Chapter and held other officer roles on the TMA Global Board. Mr. Wikel is also a frequent speaker at university and industry organization forums and is also active in several local and national charitable organizations.
