About Daniel
Dan O’Donnell has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare finance, accounting and operations with broad and deep understanding of multiple types of healthcare business enterprises. His experience includes finance leadership in acute, sub, and post-acute environments. Mr. O’Donnell has led finance teams performing start-up, shut-down, sale, and purchase activities in addition to pro-forma, FP&A, long range planning, and budgeting in entities ranging from $25M to $1B in annual revenue.
Mr. O’Donnell has served in multiple financial and operational leadership roles including as CFO in a large regional health system responsible for Urgent Care locations, Freestanding Emergency Departments, Outpatient Physical Rehabilitation (PT/OT/ST), Durable Medical Equipment (DME), a Home Health agency, Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs), and Independent / Assisted Living (IL/ALF) locations.
At this health system, he also served as CFO for its distressed Medical Group implementing productivity standards during wind-down, valuation and divestiture into community practice. He oversaw subsequent growth of the systems’ hospital employed physician group in strategic core specialties, designing and implementing a wRVU based incentive compensation model.
Prior to joining FTI, Mr. O’Donnell served as the Assistant Vice President and Controller for a multi-state, 10 hospital health system with financial leadership responsibility at its flagship, 607 licensed bed hospital including a 300+ physician employed medical group.
In addition to overseeing annual budgeting and monthly financial close activities for the hospital and physician group entities, he contributed to system initiatives including conversion from Lawson to Peoplesoft, design and deployment of Hyperion Planning and Budgeting, design of position control management, and definition and design of standardized productivity reporting in Kaufman Hall Axiom. He was responsible for pro-forma modelling for large capital requests and FP&A for both existing and proposed on and off campus growth initiatives. He oversaw preparation of Finance slides for quarterly board decks and updates of material issues for review by the Finance committee.
Previously Mr. O’Donnell has served as Executive Director, Financial Planning and Analysis for a 500k member division of a national HMO. He authored a private placement memorandum, securing qualified investors for a regional laser eye surgery start-up and served as its start-up CFO. He has also served as CFO for a large Skilled Nursing, Independent and Assisted Living campus.
Mr. O’Donnell holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the George Washington University. He also holds an M.B.A. from the same institution with a concentration in Health Services Administration. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and, in addition to his active membership in finance organizations, serves as a Board member for The CFO Alliance, a middle market CFO collaborative.
