About Don
Don Briones has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare finance, accounting, operations and business development with an emphasis on finance operations, performance improvement, turnarounds, transactions and strategy. Mr. Briones leverages his unique blend of industry and advisory expertise to assist clients with solving their most complex issues and achieving their strategic, operational and financial objectives.
Mr. Briones has broad exposure across the healthcare provider space, including non-profit, private and public-owned companies. He has extensive capabilities in navigating clients through organizational uncertainty and financial difficulty. Mr. Briones led and provided subject matter expertise in a variety of engagements, including strategic options assessment, operational and financial performance improvement, business planning, turnaround and restructure and Office of the CFO capabilities such as long-range forecasting, 13-week cash flow management, finance operational assessments, organizational benchmarking and KPI and management reporting. With his assistance clients have generated significant value to their financial and strategic positions.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Briones was a principal with a national healthcare management consulting firm specializing in financial and operational performance improvement, where he assisted hospitals, academic medical centers, health systems and medical groups in achieving organizational performance goals through strategic performance improvement, enterprise EBIDTA improvement and clinical and business operational improvements.
Prior to consulting, Mr. Briones held finance executive responsibilities in the healthcare provider industry, including as medical group CFO for a 2,000-provider multispecialty medical practice; hospital CFO for a community hospital affiliated with a large academic health system; system VP finance for a large county-based safety-net health system; leader of a shared services organization providing finance operations services for a large faith-based multihospital health system; and finance executive for a large community-based non-profit district health system. At these organizations, Mr. Briones led, partnered or supported the planning and implementation of those organizations’ highest-priority initiatives. These initiatives included both sell and buy merger and acquisition strategy and due diligence, financial and operational turnaround, strategic planning and analysis, ERP strategy and integration and finance operations governance and effectiveness.
Mr. Briones holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California, Berkeley. He also earned an M.B.A. from California State University, East Bay. He is a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (“HFMA”) and a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
