About Don
Don Briones has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare finance, accounting, operations, and business development, with an emphasis on finance operations, performance improvement, turnarounds, transactions and strategy. His healthcare sector experience includes leadership in acute, ambulatory and post-acute environments for a variety of healthcare ownership models. He leverages his unique blend of industry and advisory expertise to assist clients with solving their most complex issues and achieving their strategic, operational, and financial objectives.
Mr. Briones has extensive capabilities in navigating clients through financial difficulties and distress by developing and implementing sustainable solutions, as well as through providing executive mentoring and advisory services. His engagements have included EBIDTA improvement, operational turnarounds, clinical and business operational improvement, strategic growth prioritization and feasibility, business plan development and implementation, merger and acquisition assistance and organizational stabilization through interim management. With his assistance, clients have generated an average of 4x ROI within 24 months of engagement.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Don was a Principal in the performance improvement division of a national healthcare management firm, where he assisted clients in achieving organizational performance goals through strategic performance improvement, enterprise EBIDTA improvement and clinical and business operational improvements.
Prior to consulting, Mr. Briones held increasingly important roles in the healthcare provider industry, including as a CFO for a medium community hospital affiliated with a large academic health system, a CFO for a large multi-specialty medical foundation and finance executive positions at a large safety-net health system, large faith-based hospital system and large community-based non-profit health system. At these organizations, Don led, partnered, or supported the planning and implementation of those organization’s highest priority initiatives. These initiatives included sell and buy merger and acquisition strategy, due diligence, financial and operational turnaround, strategic planning and analysis, finance operations governance and effectiveness and corporate compliance risk mitigation.
Don holds a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California at Berkeley. He also holds M.B.A. from the California State University, East Bay. He is a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and inactive certified in Health Care Compliance. Don serves on the board of the Northern California Chapter of HFMA and is also an active committee member both regionally and nationally for HFMA. He also volunteers for the National Kidney Foundation and a local oncology non-profit organization in the San Francisco Bay Area.
