Don Briones has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare finance, accounting, operations and business development with an emphasis on finance operations, performance improvement, turnarounds, transactions and strategy. Don leverages his unique blend of industry and advisory expertise to assist clients with solving their most complex issues and achieving their strategic, operational and financial objectives.
Mr. Briones has broad exposure across the healthcare provider space, including non-profit, private and public-owned companies. He has extensive capabilities in navigating clients through organizational uncertainty and financial difficulty. Don led and provided subject matter expertise in a variety of engagements, including strategic options assessment, operational and financial performance improvement, business planning, merger and acquisition support, physician compensation planning and administration, budgeting, financial forecasting and turnaround and restructuring. With his assistance, clients have generated significant value to their financial and strategic positions.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Don was a Principal in the Performance Transformation division with a national healthcare management firm, where he assisted clients in achieving organizational performance goals through strategic performance improvement, enterprise EBIDTA improvement and clinical and business operational improvements.
Prior to consulting, Mr. Briones held increasingly responsible roles in the healthcare provider industry, including as Medical Group CFO for a 2,000 provider multispecialty medical practice, Hospital CFO for a community hospital affiliated with a large academic health system and finance executive positions at a large safety-net health system, large faith-based hospital system and large community-based non-profit health system. At these organizations, Don led, partnered or supported the planning and implementation of those organization’s highest priority initiatives. These initiatives include both sell and buy merger and acquisition strategy and due diligence, financial and operational turnaround, strategic planning and analysis, finance operations governance and effectiveness and corporate compliance risk mitigation.
Don holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California at Berkeley. He also holds an M.B.A. from the California State University, East Bay. He is a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (“HFMA”) and a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
