Don Harer

Don Harer is a Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s Power, Renewables & Energy Transition ("PRET") practice. He is a seasoned professional with over twenty years of experience working with management teams, investors and lenders of companies addressing operational, liquidity and financing challenges. Mr. Harer’s industry expertise extends to energy generation and storage, industrial manufacturing, consumer products manufacturing, wholesale and distribution, commercial and residential construction, oil field services, telecom and cross border operations.

In both an advisor and interim manager capacity, Mr. Harer has partnered with management teams, lenders and investors to evaluate business unit performance; develop and implement turnaround and improvement initiatives; develop and implement business plans, liquidity management and decision-making tools; and to structure, underwrite, and negotiate project and commercial financing arrangements. This experience further includes evaluating and devesting of non-core assets; implementing investment and loan exit strategies; and managing associated communication strategies.

Mr. Harer’s recent financial advisory experience includes advising senior lenders of a confidential $300 million wind-power generator; structuring and negotiating project financing for several recycling and battery component manufacturers; and serving as financial advisor to Hertz Corporation, a $9.5 billion rental car company. Moreover, Mr. Harer has advised the senior lenders of Real Alloy, a $1.3 billion aluminum recycler; ModSpace Corporation, a $475 million modular space company; Knight Energy Holdings, a $500 million oil and gas service company; Cal Dive International, a $500 million marine platform and pipeline installation, maintenance and salvage company; and Global Geophysical Services, a $300 million seismic data acquisition and analysis service provider.

Mr. Harer’s interim management experience includes serving as CRO for a $300 million consumer products manufacturer and distributor; Deputy CRO of GCX Limited, an international subsea telecom company, interim CFO and CRO to Central Grocers, Inc, a $1 billion grocery distributor; CRO and PMO Director for HSM, a $300 million manufacturer, importer and distributor of men’s apparel; and Controller and Treasurer for Global Power, a provider of power generation equipment and maintenance services.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Harer was a shareholder and Managing Director of Conway Mackenzie, where he specialized in providing crisis management and advisory services. He was also an Executive Director at Capstone Advisory Group, where he specialized in working with lenders of troubled company and bankruptcy situations. Mr. Harer is a U.S. Army veteran from the Signal and Artillery corps, and he has testified in the Northern District of Illinois (Hollis) and Delaware District (Carey & Sontchi) bankruptcy courts on matters such as business sustainability, administrative insolvency, cash collateral and value diminution.
