About Eric
Eric Schatz has more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry, assisting owners, contractors, designers and sureties to avoid and resolve construction disputes. Mr. Schatz specializes in schedule delay, disruption and damages analysis.
Mr. Schatz has worked on projects and programs with construction values exceeding $1 billion, including transportation, municipal, educational, commercial, residential, wastewater and industrial facilities.
Years of analyzing and preparing claims from $1 million to more than $1 billion have afforded Mr. Schatz with insights on poor risk management, reactive decision making and the potential consequences on cost, schedule, productivity and quality. He uses this experience to assist clients in evaluating their exposure and to resolve disputes prior to arbitration or trial. Mr. Schatz has participated in dozens of mediations, authored papers and presented on dispute resolution and mediation at various forums.
Mr. Schatz holds a B.A. in engineering sciences, a B.E. in mechanical engineering and a M.E.M. from Dartmouth College. He is a Professional Engineer in four states and is credentialed as a Planning and Scheduling Professional and a Certified Forensic Claims Consultant from the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering.
Relevant Experience:
- Provided expert reports on delays, disruption and damages on behalf of a municipality related to more than $100 million in claims on two wastewater treatment plant projects
- Evaluated $100 million in claims for extra work, acceleration and disruption on a more than $1 billion public–private partnership (“P3”) bridge replacement project; advised the public agency chief engineer and counsel on findings and settlement strategy implications
- Provided expert analysis and support to the public owner of a new courthouse; assisted in the resolution of $100 million in claims due to design errors and omissions, delay, disruption and defective construction in a 20-party litigation that included contractors, designers, testing agencies and the construction manager
- Coordinated complex damages analysis with input from five subject-matter experts on behalf of a contractor and insurer; defended against an allegation that negligence resulted in $1 billion in flood damage during Superstorm Sandy
