Francesco Cardillo is a healthcare transformation executive specializing in digital strategy, revenue cycle modernization and consumer-centric operations. Mr. Cardillo partners with health system leaders to translate strategy into scalable, technology-enabled operating models that improve access, experience and financial performance. With extensive experience at leading academic medical centers, he brings a cross-functional perspective at the intersection of operations, revenue cycle, technology and consumer engagement, delivering measurable improvements in patient self-service, provider productivity and enterprise efficiency.
Mr. Cardillo most recently served as Executive Director of Digital Strategy & Operations at the Medical University of South Carolina ("MUSC"), reporting to the Chief Digital Transformation Officer. He led enterprise digital health strategy across patient access, consumer engagement, AI, automation and self-service, implementing and optimizing platforms across more than 850 departments. Under his leadership, the organization expanded online scheduling and self-service adoption, deployed AI-enabled virtual assistants handling thousands of patient interactions daily and achieved meaningful gains in patient experience, care gap closure, provider productivity and financial performance.
Preceding this role, as Executive Director of Patient Financial Services & Digital Transformation at MUSC, Mr. Cardillo led approximately 75 full-time employees across patient financial services, customer service and self-pay collections, directing revenue cycle modernization, acquisition integrations, Epic optimization and transformation of the patient financial experience, with material improvements in collections and operational performance.
Earlier in his career at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Mr. Cardillo held leadership roles spanning patient financial experience, financial clearance, price transparency and revenue cycle operations, contributing to nationally recognized financial transparency initiatives.
Relevant Experience:
- Led enterprise deployment of an AI-powered conversational virtual assistant (Amelia AI) at MUSC, automating thousands of daily patient interactions across scheduling, triage and access — reducing call volume and improving patient throughput at scale
- Directed the enterprise implementation of DexCare, expanding digital patient access across one of the nation’s leading academic health systems — driving significant increases in online scheduling adoption and consumer self-service utilization
- Oversaw the deployment of Notable’s intelligent automation platform across more than 850 departments at MUSC, enabling automated patient intake, care gap closure and pre-visit workflows that improved provider productivity and financial performance
- Implemented a digital-first early-out revenue cycle program, integrating self-service payment and financial engagement tools to modernize the patient financial experience — resulting in measurable improvements in self-pay collections and reduced cost-to-collect
- Led the enterprise rollout of DAX Copilot at MUSC, deploying ambient AI documentation technology to reduce provider administrative burden, improve documentation quality and increase time available for direct patient care
