Gavin O’Grady

Gavin O’Grady is a Senior Director at FTI Consulting and is a UK-qualified architect with 28 years of post-qualification experience working on international and UK commercial projects. Mr. O’Grady is also an architectural expert with extensive experience advising on disputes related to design issues, as well as the impact of architectural matters on the progress of large-scale UK and international projects.

Mr. O’Grady advises on construction projects from the early design stage through to completion throughout Europe, Africa, Hong Kong and the Middle East. He is a specialist in consulting services related to project delays and programming of construction projects, with substantial experience in forensic planning and strategic project construction advisory services.

Throughout Mr. O’Grady’s professional career, he has gained comprehensive knowledge of the analysis and management of building projects with respect to mitigating and resolving disputes. He is especially adept at bringing clarity to construction disputes by disentangling complex project issues or architectural designs and distilling these into simple, persuasive arguments and solutions.

Mr. O’Grady has construction dispute experience on projects in Europe, Hong Kong, Africa, the Middle East, Russia and other regions. He has also been involved in numerous UK-based disputes. To fulfil these appointments, he has developed strong programming, legal and contractual skills in relation to design development, variation claims and project programme assessment.

As an architect, Mr. O’Grady has worked on projects from initial design through to completion on site, as well as projects ranging in scale, from one-off high-end specialist residential projects to designing and maintaining construction oversight for large-scale developer residential schemes. He has also managed design and technical packages for commercial projects and managed multidiscipline constructions teams during the design phase. Additionally, he has experience managing on-site design and build projects in a range of industry sectors.

Relevant Experience:

• Served as a delay expert on the redevelopment of a listed 240,000 square foot 12-floor office building in central London
• Appointed as an architectural expert to assess the design intent on a six-floor Grade II listed office development in London
• Appointed as a delay expert on a design and build contract for a 14-storey 500,000 square foot new-build office development within an existing Grade II listed mixed-use development in London; assessed the fit-out of the office areas and criticality of the high-end Cat A office space
• Appointed as a programming and delay expert in relation to an HKIAC international arbitration for a residential development in Hong Kong
• Appointed as a delay expert to advise a contractor on delays to a high-voltage undersea cable installation in the Middle East
• Served on a delay team on a five-year arbitration on a new clinical hospital in the Middle East
