Gustavo Oliva Galizzi specializes in complex disputes and investigations in Brazil. He also provides advice on complex compliance and regulatory matters for corporations, private equity funds and law firms.
An attorney by training, educated in Brazil and in the United States, Mr. Galizzi assists clients with multidisciplinary strategies and tactics, including in complex investigations, securities litigation, arbitrations, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and price-adjustment disputes. He frequently conducts investigations for in-house and external counsel into allegations of wrongdoing, including fraud, corruption, financial misstatements, price-fixing, self-dealing and other related forms of misconduct.
Mr. Galizzi has conducted hundreds of due diligence investigations for buy-side corporate clients, private equity firms and wealth management advisors, including assessing legal, regulatory and reputational risks associated with acquisition targets and their principals. He also specializes in the design and implementation of policies and other internal controls to ensure compliance with the Brazilian anticorruption legislation, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and other anti-bribery regulations.
Prior to FTI Consulting, Mr. Galizzi worked in the São Paulo office of Barbossa, Müssnich & Aragão Advogados (BMA), where he advised local and foreign corporations and private equity funds on a wide range of legal and reputational issues concerning high-profile M&A transactions, corporate governance, private equity transactions, white collar investigations, corporate disputes, and arbitration. He also was the founding partner of Candido, Martins & Galizzi – CM&G, a legal boutique in São Paulo, prior to setting up his own law firm in Belo Horizonte.
Mr. Galizzi is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Universidade de São Paulo (USP), holds an LL.M. degree from the University of Texas School of Law, an M.Phil. degree from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais and a J.D. from the Faculdade de Direito Milton Campos. Mr. Galizzi is the author of several books and articles on M&A and corporate law and a frequent speaker at conferences on disputes, investigations and corporate law matters.
Mr. Galizzi is a native Portuguese speaker, fluent in English and proficient in Spanish.
