Ian Patel

Ian Patel is a Managing Director in the Corporate Finance segment at FTI Consulting and is based in Denver. Mr. Patel is a member of the Power, Renewables & Energy Transition (“PRET”) practice and brings more than 25 years of experience delivering strategic, operational and financial solutions to companies as both an advisor and a principal.

At FTI Consulting, Mr. Patel draws on his experience as a CFO, restructuring principal and investment banker to advise energy companies and their stakeholders on capital structure, liquidity, transactions and financial performance. Mr. Patel is a subject-matter expert on the upstream oil and gas sector, with deep experience in capital structure, lender negotiations, commodity hedging, capital allocation and M&A.

Mr. Patel brings public company experience in SEC reporting, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and shareholder engagement. He  began his career as an M&A and securities lawyer at Debevoise & Plimpton. He then spent eight years in energy investment banking at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, where he advised on more than $20 billion in M&A transactions and more than $30 billion in capital raises across the domestic and international upstream sectors.

Relevant Experience:

• Led capital structure and lender strategy as CFO of a $1.3 billion private equity-backed upstream gas producer, including management of a $1 billion commodity hedge portfolio
• Built the capital allocation framework governing the development program of a private equity-backed gas producer and led the evaluation of more than $2 billion in acquisition opportunities
• Led the management side of a $3 billion debt-for-equity restructuring for FourPoint Energy, a $5 billion private equity-backed portfolio company
• Directed all SEC reporting and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance as CFO of a Nasdaq-listed company and navigated shareholder activism
• Advised on more than $20 billion in M&A transactions and more than $30 billion in capital raises across the domestic and international upstream sectors at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup
