About Ida
Ida Shea is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting, based in Denver, Colorado. Ms. Shea specializes in dispute consulting and damages analysis, providing litigation support in financial, accounting and economic matters. She has deep expertise in intellectual property disputes, including infringement and trade secret misappropriation, as well as commercial damages, insurance claims, construction disputes and contract breaches.
Beyond litigation, Ms. Shea advises on intellectual property matters for licensing negotiations, strategic planning, bankruptcy valuations and loan collateral assessments and is also experienced in royalty audits and compliance. She has served as an expert witness in U.S. federal court and in arbitration and has led numerous engagements preparing expert reports and assisting with expert testimony. Her experience spans industries including consumer products, telecommunications, software and hardware, banking, construction, energy, retail, life sciences and manufacturing.
Ms. Shea has assessed and quantified numerous patent, copyright and trademark infringement and trade secret misappropriation damages on many occasions. Additionally, for patent and trade secret matters, she has performed analyses of irreparable harm in the context of requests for injunctive relief through preliminary and permanent injunctions. Ms. Shea has performed market and competitive studies, financial analyses and technology valuations. She also has experience assessing lost profits damages stemming from alleged infringements; evaluating the contribution of patented processes or methods to end products; and identifying and reviewing comparable license agreements.
Ms. Shea is skilled in the application of the Georgia‐Pacific factors and other case law to the determination of infringement damages and has reviewed hundreds of license agreements in diverse industries. Her experience in calculating damage from the misappropriation of varied trade secrets includes misappropriated confidential methods, processes and commercial information. In the context of disputes, she has performed numerous reasonable royalty and lost profit calculations and valued technology across many industries.
Ms. Shea joined FTI Consulting in 2012, after having completed an M.B.A. with a specialization in corporate finance and investment banking from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. While in Madison, she worked part-time at the State of Wisconsin Investment Board doing credit analysis on the oil and gas industry. Prior to attending business school, Ms. Shea worked at a business litigation and consulting group headquartered in Washington, D.C., where she provided valuation and consulting services to companies in a variety of industries, including oil and gas, chemical, utility, construction, entertainment, technology, financial services and consumer products, among others.
