Irina Petrila

Irina Petrila is a financial crime regulatory expert with more than 12 years’ experience across various financial crime compliance areas, including anti-money laundering/counter terrorist financing (“AML/CTF”) and sanctions. Irina assists regulated financial institutions in translating complex regulatory requirements into accessible and actionable practical solutions.

Irina has worked and led several projects in the financial crime space at FTI Consulting, including projects focused on assisting regulated firms in identifying and rectifying vulnerabilities within their financial crime frameworks to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. dditionally, she helps clients in driving strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of financial crime prevention measures.

Throughout her career, Irina has worked across all Three Lines of Defense, leading complex projects, keeping abreast of evolving regulatory landscapes and advising clients on upcoming changes, challenges and mitigation strategies. Additionally, she has often been seconded into senior interim financial crime subject matter expert (“SME”) roles.

Prior to FTI Consulting, Irina worked for a large European bank, where she assisted in setting up its global AML/CTF quality assurance (“QA”) function. Once the function was established, she trained and led SMEs to perform QA reviews across various jurisdictions in Europe.

Relevant Experience:

• Managed the delivery of a client lifecycle management (“CLM”) transformation project across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (“EMEA”) region, designing a CLM target operating model focused on firm’s future state in relation to its governance, policies and standards, technology and reporting
• Led the delivery of an EMEA-wide regulatory gap analysis involving the assessment of existing AML/CTF policies, standards and procedures against local regulatory requirements, guidelines and industry good practices
• Led the design of automated data and management dashboards for CLM, transaction monitoring and sanctions across EMEA; included defining new sets of key performance indicators, prototyping, training and conducting user-acceptance testing (“UAT”) with various stakeholders in the firm
• Acted as the interim head of client onboarding in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions for a large U.S. broker-dealer after successfully delivering a counterparty remediation exercise
• Seconded as interim compliance officer in the New York branch of a bank in northern Africa; responsible for addressing corrective actions stemming from both internal and external audits
