Irina Petrila is a financial crime regulatory expert, with more than 10 years of experience across various financial crime areas, including anti-money laundering, sanctions and anti-bribery and corruption.
Irina works with a wide variety of financial institutions, including banks and broker-dealers across both Europe, the Middle East and Africa (“EMEA”) and the United States. She has led numerous financial crime remediation projects, primarily focusing on enhancing existing systems and controls to ensure that financial institutions maintain the highest level of regulatory compliance.
Irina has overseen and delivered complex financial crime projects, keeping abreast of evolving regulatory landscapes and advising clients on upcoming changes, challenges and mitigation strategies.
Throughout Irina's time at FTI Consulting, Irina has been seconded into interim financial crime subject matter expert (“SME”) roles. Most recently, she acted as interim Head of Client Onboarding in EMEA and the Asia Pacific region for a large U.S. broker-dealer with a significant presence in Europe.
Irina has also assisted in setting up the Global Anti-Money Laundering /Counter Terrorism Financing (“AML/CTF”) Quality Assurance function at a large European bank and led quality assurance (“QA”) SMEs to perform QA reviews across various jurisdictions in Europe.
- Managed the delivery of an EMEA-wide Contract Lifecycle Management (“CLM”) design and compliance support project, focusing on developing a CLM Targeting Operating Model across the Three Lines of Defence and assessing existing EMEA AML/CTF policies and procedures against local regulatory requirements, guidelines and industry good practice
- Led the enhancement of financial crime framemorks, including the drafting of policies and procedures and development of training needs analysis models
- Managed AML/CTF client remediation exercises, working closely with the Three Lines of Defence to ensure transparency across the board in relation to any weaknesses and vulnerabilities identified, and the manner in which these can be addressed
- Led the enhancement of Sanctions Compliance Frameworks, which included the drafting of comprehensive policies and standards, assurance testing guidance, as well as procedures relating to sanctions name and payment screening
