John Cornell is a Managing Director within the M&A Transaction Services practice and part of the broader Corporate Finance segment at FTI Consulting. Mr. Cornell has more than 17 years of diverse leadership experience as both an advisor and operator. He has advised or worked in-house for both public and private companies spanning a multitude of industries, of different size and scale and at various phases stages of their life cycle.
Mr. Cornell’s experience includes a wide range of pre- and post-M&A services, including but not limited to: financial due diligence (buy-side and sell-side); financial analysis; cash flow modeling; contract negotiation support; vendor negotiation; working capital disputes; capital raise efforts; margin and EBITDA optimization; and developing and executing pre- and post-close integration plans. His industry experience spans home healthcare, industrial products and services, consumer products, wholesale, retail, food and beverage, and technology, media and telecommunications, among others.
Mr. Cornell primarily focuses on providing buy-side and sell-side advisory services to private equity and strategic clients, including analyzing quality of earnings, quality of assets and working capital, as well as identifying potential liabilities and risks.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Cornell was a principal at a Top 30 National / Top 20 Global accounting firm, where he specialized in providing buy-side and sell-side advisory services to private equity and strategic clients. In this role, Mr. Cornell was also a member of the firm’s National and Global ESG Solutions Leadership Team, developing and deploying services to manage client needs arising from the ever-changing regulatory landscape, with an emphasis on climate-related matters. Mr. Cornell is a prior Big Four auditor and due diligence professional, a former Chief Financial Officer and a former General Manager at a leading Private Equity-backed carbon accounting SaaS business. He also formerly served as Senior Vice President of M&A integration, leading cross-functional integration efforts including planning, implementing and managing financial and operational activities related to the integration of acquired businesses. Mr. Cornell holds a B.S. in accounting and a B.S. in finance from the Villanova School of Business. He is a Certified Public Accountant (“CPA”) in the state of New York.
