About Jorge
Jorge Vela has nearly 15 years of accounting and corporate finance experience and is a key member of FTI Consulting’s Transactions practice in Florida and Latin America.
Mr. Vela particularly focused on buy-side processes, having participated in multiple multinational transactions, including divestments and carve-out processes. He has assisted numerous clients throughout the United States as well as Latin American countries, including Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Peru and Chile. Mr. Vela’s industry experience includes manufacturing, industrial and chemical products, retail and consumer goods, health services, fintech, hospitality and telecommunications.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Vela was a Director in the Advisory practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”). He started his career at PwC as an auditor to companies within the manufacturing and mining industries. Mr. Vela also led Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”) compliance engagements during his tenure at PwC.
Mr. Vela studied Finance at the Universidad Regiomontana in Monterrey, Mexico, and is fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
Relevant Experience:
- Led financial due diligence in the merger between Liberty Latin America’s Costa Rican operation and Millicom
- Led financial due diligence of Axtel, a Mexican telecom and entertainment company aimed towards residential consumers for client Alestra (i.e. Grupo ALFA), a Mexican telecom company servicing business clients; the deal was valued at $750 million
- Led the financial due diligence in the acquisition of department stores Suburbia by Liverpool from Walmex (Walmart Mexico); the deal was valued at $1.03 billion
- Led the financial due diligence in the acquisition of Grupo Familia, Colombia’s largest hygienic products manufacturer; the deal was valued at $1.5 billion
- Led the multiple financial due diligence engagements on specialty consumer finance businesses within the United States
- Led the financial due diligence in the acquisition of Intergen’s Mexico Portfolio by Actis; the deal was valued at $1.3 billion
