About Julien
Julien Wallen leads Balance Sheet, Portfolio and Risk advisory in the Financial Services Europe, Middle East and Africa (“EMEA”) practice. Based in Zurich, Mr. Wallen has 25 years of consultancy and asset management experience, with a strong track record of advising leading financial institutions on their most complex situations.
Mr. Wallen has worked extensively with banks, sovereign wealth funds, central banks and asset managers on balance sheet, risk and regulatory, financial policy, capital markets and sustainability topics.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Wallen was a Managing Director at BlackRock for more than a decade, where he held several senior leadership positions, including heading the EMEA financial markets advisory business (Blackrock’s management consulting unit) and spearheading global initiatives on private markets, sustainability and risk outsourcing. Prior to BlackRock, Mr. Wallen was an Associate Principal at McKinsey and co-founded a web start-up.
Relevant Experience:
- Oversaw multiyear balance sheet and risk transformation programs for European banks and global systemically important banks (“GSIBs”) (including stress testing, regulatory compliance, risk-weighted asset (“RWA”) optimization)
- Supported a European supervisor with system-wide stress tests across more than 100 banks in 2016 and 2018
- Designed COVID-19 policy response through corporate bond purchase programs for central banks
- Led multiyear sustainability, climate risk and net zero target setting programs for banks and asset owners
- Co-led the development of BlackRock’s climate risk and net zero analytics platform (Aladdin Climate)
- Set-up several client investment platforms, including a $30 billion climate fund and a $10 billion infrastructure fund
- Integrated three distinct businesses to establish a cohesive more than $1 trillion assets under management (“AUM”) BlackRock business unit
- Led private markets client strategy and campaign leading to significant fundraising for BlackRock
- Performed Troika-mandated banking-diagnostics in Ireland and Greece on more than €500 billion loan exposures
- Led set-up of “bad banks,” management of portfolio wind-downs, non-performing loans (“NPL”) portfolio reviews, NPL management programs and NPL portfolio sales for banks and central banks clients
