About Ketan
Ketan Tipnis has 25 years of industry and consulting experience in contract and commercial management, claims and dispute resolution on complex construction projects. Mr. Tipnis has represented owners and contractors on domestic and international capital projects and disputes involving contractual entitlement issues, delays, loss of productivity and damages quantification. He has testified in international arbitration forums in Brazil and India on schedule delays, disruptions and construction damages.
Mr. Tipnis specializes in critical path method (“CPM”) scheduling, delay and disruption analysis and related damage quantification, as well as loss of productivity analysis and quantification. His experience encompasses projects in various construction industry sectors and includes power plants, steel plants, oil and gas, transportation and rail, universities, commercial buildings, stadiums and wastewater treatment facilities.
Mr. Tipnis has worked on several mega projects on-site in the United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Middle East, Brazil, Hong Kong and India. In addition, he has worked on U.S. Government contracts and is experienced in using the Federal Acquisition Regulation (“FAR”) guide in the analysis of delay and quantum claims.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Tipnis worked for various international forensic litigation consulting firms in the United States and overseas. At the start of his career, he worked for UK-based structural steel contractor Cleveland Bridge & Engineering in Dubai for five years. In this role, he focused on steel design, project management, estimation, structural steel erection and quantity surveying.
Mr. Tipnis holds a B.E. in Civil Engineering from the University of Mumbai and an M.S. in Construction Management from Texas A&M University. Additionally, he is a Certified Project Management Professional (“PMP”).
Relevant Experience:
- Managed the analysis of damages related to a $100 million project involving the construction of a 6 km rail line in Canada; prepared a mediation report for the contractor’s claims for time-related costs, home office overheads, interest and disruption, etc.
- Served as team leader for a major quantum and disruption dispute related to a $250 million steel plant in Mobile, Alabama; performed cost variance analysis to quantify cost overruns resulting from delay, disruption and acceleration of works
- Analyzed disruption and quantum claims for a dispute between the main contractor and the structural engineer of a $300 million mega football stadium in London
- Provided on-site risk and claims management services for a €4 billion steel plant project in Rio de Janeiro; led a team responsible for effective coordination and client management in a multinational cultural environment for two years
- Quantified financial damages for the new Dubai Metro Rail (Red Line) for $2.5 billion projects on behalf of a joint venture of international contractors
- Advised large international contractor Larsen & Toubro on delay analysis and the renegotiation of multiple solar power plant contracts, extension of time claims and liquidated damage defenses against a private owner in India
