About Kurt
Kurt Moeller is a Managing Director in the M&A, Activism & Governance practice within the Strategic Communications segment. Mr. Moeller has extensive expertise in shareholder activism situations, corporate governance, and equity research. He helps issuers secure and maintain shareholder support for various types of investor proposals.
Mr. Moeller has spoken at several industry events, including the Bloomberg Activism Forum, the Activist Investor Conference, and the National Association of Corporate Directors Annual Summit.
Immediately prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Moeller worked for three years on the Institutional Shareholder Services (“ISS”) Special Situations Research team. There, he analyzed and provided voting recommendations to shareholders on proxy contests and contested M&A. He frequently engaged with company directors, executive officers, activist shareholders, and institutional investors.
Previously, Mr. Moeller served as a buy-side equity analyst for many years, at firms such as Allianz Global Investors and Calvert Investments — one of the pioneers in socially responsible investing. He often met with top executives and investor relations officers while performing in-depth fundamental research. Earlier, he was a daily newspaper reporter, covering business for the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle.
Mr. Moeller earned a B.A. in economics and history from Rice University. He earned an M.B.A. in finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (“CFA”) Charterholder.
Relevant Experience:
- Advised First Foundation in a proxy contest; client earned favorable recommendations from ISS and favorable votes from shareholders
- Advised 3D Systems in a contested M&A situation; client earned favorable recommendations from ISS and Glass Lewis, plus favorable votes from shareholders
- Advised CoreLogic as it defeated an unsolicited takeover bid and retained a majority of board seats while facing a full slate proxy contest
- Served as ISS’ principal analyst on proxy contests involving ADP and Campbell Soup
- Led ISS’ analysis of several contested mergers, including Bristol-Myers Squibb/Celgene and J. Alexander’s/99 Restaurants
