Lane Spears is a senior governance, compliance and e-discovery advisory services professional with a broad consulting background. Mr. Spears' experience spans domestic and international leadership and achievement in e-discovery matters, digital forensics, disputes and litigation, financial investigations and advanced data analytics, including automated fraud detection.
Within FTI Consulting’s Technology segment, Mr. Spears leads technology service delivery teams related to event-driven litigation and dispute matters, as well as information governance and compliance engagements. He is a subject matter expert in anomaly analytics and reporting for forensic investigations. Many of his most recent projects have involved AI-powered entity resolution solutions for disputes and the development and implementation of e-discovery strategies for multi-jurisdictional corporate investigations.
Mr. Spears brings more than 20 years of experience with national accounting and boutique consulting firms. Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Spears served as Practice Leader for Electronic Discovery and Data Analytics within a global tax consulting firm. He has also held management positions in the Analytic and Forensic Technology groups at Deloitte and PwC.
- In an international corruption investigation, directed data analytics efforts across three countries focusing on the identification of facilitation payments to sales agents and physicians. The coordinated data analytic models included journal entry data analysis, tracing of cash desk funds, external data validation of politically exposed persons and interview activities.
- Designed, developed and launched a proprietary software and methodology for anomaly detection for disbursements and conflicts of interest, executing multiple engagements including successful proactive projects for five of the top twenty U.S. big box retailers.
- Supported engagements relating to the Lehman Brothers insolvency, including directing daily regional claims processing efforts for 40 professionals to triage and reconciling claims for submission to Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC).
- Led the product development, research and winning bids for complex analytics projects for Department of Homeland Security and NASA related to improper payments.
