Matt McCartney is a digital risk and information governance expert specializing in data analytics, data privacy, e-discovery, digital forensics and post-breach data mining. Mr. McCartney brings more than 20 years of experience in the legal technology field as a trusted advisor to clients across sectors including life sciences, manufacturing, automotive and financial services.
Mr. McCartney leads engagements in highly sensitive, complex investigations across both litigation and incident response, with specialized expertise in cloud platforms, including Microsoft 365. He has directed data breach response for dozens of clients and led response during a breach that impacted 90 million people. Mr. McCartney’s experience covers a wide range of additional issues including product liability litigation, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigations, intellectual property theft, employment and misconduct matters and pricing disputes. He advises clients on developing privacy workflows and strategies in response to ongoing regulatory changes and enforcement trends.
Mr. McCartney is a skilled e-discovery case manager with experience in identifying complex electronically stored information from numerous data sources. He has contributed to the development and implementation of evidence management methodologies and has worked on matters involving breaches by internal parties, IP theft, economic damages, asset misappropriation, data destruction, data recovery and employment litigation. He has also led and developed teams for all aspects of the investigative process, including initial data collection, analysis criteria development, investigative scoping, host–based forensic analysis, investigative reports, affidavit preparation and strategic advisory for counsel and clients. In addition to his client advisory work, Mr. McCartney regularly contributes to industry thought leadership and serves as a speaker on topics spanning large-scale e-discovery, the Global Data Protection Regulation, adoption of in-place discovery tools, legal technology and innovation and more.
