About Matt
Matt Shirk leads FTI Consulting’s Texas Transactions Diligence practice. Throughout his career, Mr. Shirk has led buy and sell-side efforts spanning financial, operational and commercial diligence on several hundred transactions. Mr. Shirk has a proven track-record of helping executives make better transaction decisions and helping management teams more successfully navigate inflection points.
Mr. Shirk’s career of over 20 years encompasses banking, general management consulting, transaction consulting and entrepreneurial activities. Through these experiences, Mr. Shirk has developed a rich and diverse set of capabilities across multiple industries and functional areas. His broad range of knowledge enables intuitive understanding of the downstream impacts to a business from a given decision. Mr. Shirk has a demonstrated capability to deploy creative solutions with maximum impact toward the desired outcome while minimizing disruption and unintended consequences on the rest of the business.
Based in Houston, Mr. Shirk has naturally developed deep capability with energy related businesses. However, throughout his career Mr. Shirk has made a point of developing and maintaining a wide range of industry experiences and has proficiency in software, insurance, manufacturing, retail, industrial services and construction services.
Relevant Experience:
- Managed firm-wide relationship with several PE accounts; responsible for delivery of diligence services and coordination of other firm services provided to the fund and its portfolio companies
- Led multi-year portfolio optimization effort for large services organization; interfaced directly with C-suite sponsors on work encompassing portfolio performance review, business unit performance improvement initiative identification and execution and divestment recommendation and execution
- Developed proficiency across multiple functional areas including supply chain, procurement, sourcing, executive strategy, operations, marketing, finance and accounting; this wide range permits a deep understanding of the organizational impact of process changes
