With more than 20 years of expertise in forensic accounting and investigations, Mavis Tan has handled numerous high-profile and often cross-border internal and regulatory inquiries across Asia Pacific.
Mavis serves a diverse clientele, including high-net-worth individuals and multinational corporations, providing critical insights into complex financial disputes, whistle-blower allegations of fraud and corruption and securities regulator inquiries. Her roles often involve acting as an expert witness in civil and criminal cases, showcasing her ability to assist clients, regulators and courts in clarifying intricate financial matters. Mavis also has a solid track record in performing forensic due diligence and risk assessments for substantial financial transactions and helping multinationals remediate internal control gaps after an investigation or acquisition.
Before rejoining FTI Consulting in 2026, Mavis led the forensic services practice of a global risk consultancy for Greater China and North Asia.
Relevant Experience:
- Jointly appointed by the parties as Assessor to assist the Court on valuation issues during trial of a USD500 million audit negligence claim brought by the liquidators of a medical technologies company previously listed on NASDAQ
- Engaged as expert forensic accountant to quantify loss to the Plaintiff in audit negligence proceedings brought by the liquidators of a company whose shares were formerly listed in Hong Kong
- Led a post-acquisition compliance risk assessment of a USD2 billion biotechnology company with operations in the United States and China, comprising an assessment of its compliance framework to support ethics and compliance integration and a risk-based forensic review of its financial transactions to identify any reportable transactions under U.S. Safe Harbor rules
- Retained by external counsel on behalf of a U.S.-listed diagnostics equipment manufacture in an SEC investigation into allegations of bribery by its Chinese subsidiary and potential conflicts of interest involving family members of the head of its China operations
- Engaged as expert accountant to opine on the solvency of a Hong Kong company in the years prior to its liquidation, in proceedings brought against the directors of the company in the United States Southern District Court of New York by a litigation funder
- Engaged as expert forensic accountant by the defendant in criminal proceedings for alleged money laundering offences, written and oral evidence was provided and accepted by the District Court of Hong Kong, resulting in the defendant being acquitted
