About Michael
Michael Bui specializes in financial advisory and corporate restructurings, with more than 15 years of experience. Mr. Bui’s select expertise includes forecast development, business plan analyses, collateral evaluations and recovery assessment, strategic alternatives assessment, interim management and other restructuring matters.
Mr. Bui has extensive industry experience in engineering and construction, oilfield services, exploration and production (“E&P”), power and other industrial sectors. He has represented a wide range private and public companies, as well as lenders.
Prior to rejoining FTI Consulting, Mr. Bui was a Head of Project Controls and Business Management with KBR’s Saudi Arabian joint venture. The joint venture provided engineering services to the oil and gas and infrastructure industry. In this role, Mr. Bui was responsible for business management matters, including financial planning and analysis, project controls (cost, planning and estimating) and major pursuit analysis.
Mr. Bui began his professional career at KBR, where his responsibilities included providing analytical support for business acquisitions, investor relations and other corporate finance matters. Mr. Bui played integral roles in KBR's $511 million initial public offering (“IPO”) and subsequent split-off of Halliburton.
Relevant Experience:
- Served as Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) and Chief Restructuring Officer (“CRO”) of Texas Central Railroad, the developer of the Texas high speed rail project, one of the largest infrastructure jobs in the U.S.
- Served as financial advisor Ascend Performance Materials Holdings Inc. in its filing of a Chapter 11 to execute a plan of reorganization
- Served as financial advisor to the bank group of McDermott International, an international engineering and construction company, during its cross-border restructuring implemented through a UK Restructuring Plan, Dutch WHOAs, and chapter 15 cases
- Served as financial advisor to an independent power producer in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (“ERCOT”) market on its restructuring related to Winter Storm Uri disruptions
- Served as financial advisor to TNT Crane & Rigging in its filing of a Chapter 11 to execute a prepackaged plan of reorganization
- Served as financial advisor to ExGen Texas Power, LLC, an Exelon subsidiary in its Chapter 11 to execute its plan of reorganization
- Served as Interim CFO of a gas-to-liquids focused company, guiding the company through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy and sale process
- Served on restructuring engagements for energy and industrial clients including TPC Group, Strike, LLC, Katerra, Inc., Dolphin Drilling, Pacific Drilling S.A., Willbros Group, Big West Oil, RockPile Energy Services, and several other confidential matters
