Michael Duffy is a Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s Health Solutions segment with a focus on the physician enterprise. For more than 20 years he has helped healthcare delivery systems, medical groups, community hospitals, employers and payers navigate strategic, financial and operational challenges. Mr. Duffy brings a collaborative approach and creative problem-solving to address clients’ most pressing issues.
Mr. Duffy’s experience includes both executive leadership positions at leading healthcare delivery organizations and as a management consultant to a variety of health systems and medical groups across the country. He has helped healthcare organizations evaluate and execute on key strategic growth initiatives, acquire and integrate large medical groups and ancillary services, manage complex clinical operations, improve ambulatory performance and develop and expand value-based care capabilities.
Prior to FTI Consulting, Mr. Duffy held executive level roles at a large independent medical group and a leading academic health system. He combines this with 15 years of management consulting experience at several leading consulting firms. His experience includes serving as Vice President of Strategy and Operations at a $400 million medical group with more than 350 providers across multiple clinics, ambulatory surgery centers (“ASC”), and ancillary sites. He led various strategic planning projects in conjunction with the executive team to grow and develop the group while also managing business operations in the group’s affiliated management services organization (“MSO”) as well as ancillary clinical services in the medical group. His scope of responsibility included strategy and business development, provider onboarding, IT/systems, marketing, payer credentialing and clinical operations. He also co-led planning, evaluation and operationalization for key new clinical programs, including a free-standing ambulatory cancer center.
Before that role, he was Director of Business Development at a $4 billion nationally ranked academic health system, where he partnered with department chairs, division chiefs and medical directors to lead multidisciplinary teams in planning, evaluating and executing strategic growth initiatives in the primary care network and transplant service line, including all medical subspecialties associated with clinical transplantation. He also served as Senior Manager of Strategy and Performance Improvement at a leading healthcare consultancy with more than $100 million in revenue and 200 consultants nationwide that advises providers in strategy and planning, physician-hospital and payer-provider relationships and organizational development. Mr. Duffy advised clients on a wide array of pressing issues related to ambulatory strategy, network development, medical group growth and integration and operational performance.
Mr. Duffy has an M.B.A. from University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business and a B.B.A. from Loyola Marymount University.
