Mike Thompson has over 21 years of consulting experience, he has worked with all aspects of the Revenue Cycle in physician practices, community health systems, and academic medical centers.
Mr. Thompson has 20+ years of experience in Revenue Cycle process improvement. He has experience in helping clients with operational improvement, EHR optimization, and shared services consolidation. He works with his clients to ensure that they have the appropriate organizational structure, processes, technology and financial reporting in place for their organizations to achieve sustainable, long-term benefits.
Nationally, Mr. Thompson has completed comprehensive Revenue Cycle assessments for over 75 healthcare facilities. These assessments included an evaluation of the revenue cycle processes including patient access, case management, charge capture, HIM, PFS, and managed care. They also involved specific financial analysis to identify opportunities to improve net revenue, increase cash flow, and reduce organizational costs. Typical projects achieved net revenue benefits for clients ranging between 3-5%.
Mr. Thompson has also led multiple projects to assess and develop Customer Access Centers. These Customer Access Centers create a single, customer centric access point that allows administrative and clinical staff to schedule, preregister, verify insurance benefits, obtain referrals/authorizations, perform clinical triage, and refill prescriptions for patients. He has developed and implemented Customer Access Centers at multi-facility hospitals with 500+ physicians.
In addition, Mr. Thompson has assisted clients in the identification and implementation of new technology (bolt-on or complete EHR) and optimization of existing technology that supports a comprehensive, efficient Revenue Cycle process. Some of the specific areas of focus include patient access, revenue integrity, HIM / coding, patient accounting (billing, collections, follow-up), denial prevention and payment variance, and dashboards and reporting.
