About Monna
Monna Maria Nielsen is a Managing Director in the Forensic and Litigation practice and Head of Forensic Accounting and Advisory Services in Denmark. As a lawyer with a wide range of experience in forensic investigation, compliance, financial crime and corporate governance, Monna advises clients on corporate compliance and business ethics, helping them navigate the most critical and complex challenges. Her services range from establishing whistleblower programs to investigating misconduct and advising on the prevention of non-compliance and unethical behaviour.
Specialising in anti-bribery, anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, fraud, sanctions and whistleblowing, Monna possesses in-depth knowledge of financial crime laws and regulations, corporate governance best practices and enforcement trends within these areas. Monna has led full-scale internal investigations on behalf of global clients and their external or internal legal counsel into fraud and financial crime including bribery and corruption, misappropriation of funds, improper revenue recognition practices and other compliance issues, and has conducted investigative witness interviews and managed complex document reviews.
Monna leads FTI Consulting's Whistleblower Team in Denmark. She has provided expertise on whistleblowing to over 100 organisations. She has advised Danish and multinational clients in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors on implementing, managing, evaluating and improving whistleblowing programs and management systems.
Monna guides clients in developing and maintaining robust, effective compliance programmes and risk management frameworks tailored to their business, risk exposure and risk appetite. She has extensive experience performing gap analyses and measuring the effectiveness of compliance programs, including third-party programs, and advises on implementing enhancements to address regulators’ expectations.
Using a risk-based approach, Monna advises clients on preventing financial crime and applying the appropriate due diligence measures. She also assists in conducting investigative due diligence to identify potential red flags and risks of sanctions violations, fraud, bribery, corruption, tax evasion and money laundering. She assists clients in conducting proactive and comprehensive risk assessment exercises, performing compliance due diligence in the context of M&A transactions, and provides guidance on mitigating financial crime risks.
