About Nathan
Nathan Cooperman, M.D. is an integral part of the Digital Health Transformation and Strategy practice within Health Solutions. Dr. Cooperman has served in leadership roles as both a consultant and physician for more than 20 years and possesses a unique skillset that empowers healthcare organizations to develop and implement meaningful technologies that enhance the patient experience while maximizing quality, safety and provider satisfaction.
Dr. Cooperman has led large transformation engagements for health systems, AMCs, physician practices, and commercial startups. His expertise centers around HIT integration, physician engagement, and workflow process improvement. Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Dr. Cooperman built a Healthcare Business Intelligence practice for a national consultancy, assisted AT&T mHealth and Abbott Laboratories with product development and launch strategies, and implemented EHR optimization workflows for public and private sector hospitals. He is a published researcher and thought leader who has held CMIO advisory positions for two emerging digital health companies.
Prior to becoming a physician, Dr. Cooperman designed and implemented real-time drug interaction software for a major national pharmacy chain. He went on to become a product manager in the high-tech and financial services industries before obtaining his doctorate degree in medicine and surgery. During his tenure at Duke University Medical Center, Dr. Cooperman worked with industry to develop tools and devices to enhance intraoperative technologies that benefitted both the patient and surgeon.
In Dr. Cooperman’s role as a healthcare consultant and subject matter expert, he led the value-based care/quality measures team for a big four consulting firm where he also delivered industry leading content and successfully formulated an expansion strategy for a world-renowned cancer center to broaden reach of their operations and services into multiple foreign markets. Dr. Cooperman founded and led two independent consulting firms specializing in IT project management and implementation services, healthcare management, quality and operational improvement. Dr. Cooperman has published numerous articles and white papers, delivered lectures on intraoperative crew resource management, healthcare reform and quality, and has appeared on various healthcare podcasts.
Dr. Cooperman received his M.D. degree from Duke University where he was also the first candidate to complete a surgical fellowship in Computer Assisted Orthopedic Surgery (CAOS). He also holds a post-graduate degree in Life Sciences from Columbia University and is a member of the Gamma Kappa Alpha National Honor Society for his undergraduate work in languages at Princeton.
