Nimisha Patel

Nimisha Patel is a managing director in the FTI Consulting’s Technology segment and is based in New York. Ms. Patel is an expert in unstructured data management and processing, for the purpose of accelerating review and fact-finding for legal and regulatory needs, including electronic discovery and information governance. In this role, Ms. Patel advises corporate, law firm and internal stakeholders on data management and processing workflows, leads a global team to ensure consistent processes and levels of service, and leverages her expertise to evaluate, advise and build new technology solutions for clients.

Ms. Patel has more than 15 years of experience working with the myriad of unstructured data formats at the center of complex legal and regulatory matters, ranging from emails and electronic documents to emerging and bespoke cloud-based collaboration tools. In this role she is a problem-solver, tasked with taking terabytes of unstructured data, often in completely new or custom formats, and developing workflows and applying technology to defensibly process the information for downstream review. She works closely with colleagues to develop and execute defensible and consistent workflows with FTI Consulting Technology’s portfolio of industry-leading platforms, including Relativity, Reveal, Brainspace, Nuix Discovery and others. On a recent DOJ second request, Ms. Patel and her team managed and processed more than 50 TBs of data from more than 20 platforms, all following a consistent process. This large-scale processing was completed within several months. Her team annually handles 250+ terabytes of data across 500+ matters.

Ms. Patel also leverages her technical expertise to lead efforts to evaluate new technology platforms, including proof of concept and technical tests to ensure accuracy and defensibility for clients. In certain cases, Ms. Patel leads the development of new solutions. Some of her recent projects include designing both a data privacy, risk and compliance management tool and a deal room document review solution, integrating use of multimedia discovery and AI-powered cognitive services for data enrichment into traditional data processing and review workflows, and adopting modern analytics and data processing techniques to effectively decipher and categorize data.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting in 2006, Ms. Patel was a litigation support operator at Dolphin Search, where she was responsible for managing clients’ electronically stored information and performed complex SQL analysis on the data. She also held the position of network operator and administrator at University of Southern California, where she provided second the third level support for the university’s network issues. In all these roles, she has served as a primary point of client contact and provided quality support to meet client needs.

Ms. Patel holds a B.S. in Information Technology from NIT in India and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Southern California.
