Paul Connolly

Paul Connolly is a digital forensics and electronic discovery expert with more than 20 years of experience in investigations and electronic data. Mr. Connolly serves as an expert witness and forensic and consulting expert in federal and state courts, in matters involving intellectual property, digital evidence, document authenticity, e-discovery and data security.

Mr. Connolly works with clients across diverse industries, including technology, biotechnology, life sciences, financial services, construction, media, real estate and government. He leads digital forensics and e-discovery matters for corporations and their counsel in trade secret and IP disputes, cyber breach and wire fraud investigations, and internal investigations that transition into complex litigation.

An attorney by training, Mr. Connolly brings a combination of technical, legal and business acumen to companies and law firms across the lifecycle of a dispute. He applies forensic analysis, data analytics, artificial intelligence and defensible workflows to collections, document reviews, discovery negotiations and expert testimony. Additionally, he advises clients on discovery strategy, technology strategy and data retention.

Prior to joining FTI Technology, Mr. Connolly spent more than a decade at Kroll, most recently as a Managing Director in its Cyber, Data & Resilience practice. He began his career as an attorney, including six years with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP in New York and Hong Kong, where he built the firm’s Asia discovery practice and led document reviews in front-page regulatory enforcement matters.

Relevant Experience:

• Filed an expert report and sat for deposition as a named testifying expert for a corporate defendant in a major theft of trade secrets action brought by an iconic electronics company
• Testified before a jury as an expert witness at trial in federal court on behalf of a plaintiff biotechnology company in a theft of trade secrets action against a former CEO, who had formed a competing enterprise
• Served as a consulting expert on behalf of Ottomotto LLC and Otto Trucking LLC in the landmark Waymo (Google) v. Uber Technologies trade secrets litigation
• Testified at trial as a client’s named expert regarding a compromised Microsoft 365 tenant following an attacker-in-the-middle attack that caused a multimillion-dollar misdirected wire
• Served as a consulting expert in a bellwether class action arising from the MOVEit zero-day attack, assessing the reasonableness of client and vendor cybersecurity measures
