About Ramin
Ramin Hassan, Ph.D., is a Director in FTI Consulting’s Securities, Commodities & Derivatives practice. Dr. Hassan brings extensive experience in applying economic theory, financial modeling and statistical analysis to address complex litigation and regulatory challenges. He has advised clients and legal counsel on high-stakes disputes involving securities litigation, valuation, structured finance, foreign exchange (“Forex”) markets and consumer protection.
Dr. Hassan collaborates closely with top law firms throughout all stages of litigation and bankruptcy proceedings, including class certification, loss causation, damages quantification and evaluation of industry standards and practices. His research has been published in The Journal of Financial Economics and by the International Monetary Fund, underscoring his thought leadership in financial economics.
Dr. Hassan has a strong track record of helping clients navigate complex litigation and adversarial investigations by leading teams, partnering with academic and industry experts and delivering robust economic and financial analysis. He has supported attorneys and expert witnesses across the litigation lifecycle, from discovery and expert identification to the development of expert reports, deposition and trial preparation and cross-examination of opposing experts.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Dr. Hassan was with Cornerstone Research, where he provided economic and finance analyses to clients and supported expert witnesses in delivering expert testimony across a range of litigation matters.
Relevant Experience:
- Appraised standalone fair value of a derivatives exchange in Delaware Chancery litigation by benchmarking merger consideration against precedent transactions and public comparables
- Analyzed class certification, market efficiency, and loss causation in connection with various Rule 10b-5 securities matters
- Estimated damages exposure in high-stakes securities class actions using trading models, providing consulting support for settlement discussions
- Evaluated materiality and causation of alleged mortgage issuance deficiencies tied to RMBS certificates’ price declines post-financial crisis, strengthening defense arguments on loss causation
- Supported counsel in Forex litigation matters by leading data discovery and quantifying damages tied to alleged anti-competitive trading practices and market manipulation
- Analyzed consumer behavior patterns to challenge allegations of misleading conduct by a major online retailer; demonstrated inconsistencies in plaintiff’s claims and rebutted asserted damages
- Conducted negative causation analysis in Section 11 IPO litigation by evaluating the total mix of information available to investors
- Researched industry norms in syndicated loan markets to clarify scope and limits of the loan administrator’s duties
- Investigated disclosure practices and due diligence standards in U.S. public company M&A transactions, focusing on forward-looking synergy estimates
