Romy Comiter

Romy Comiter is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting, Global Insurance Services, EMEA. She is based in London and provides advisory services to the general insurance market. She has extensive knowledge of Direct and Reinsurance claims, with her expertise ranging from operational performance and efficiency; the valuation and assessment of claims; reserving; reinsurance recoveries; and regulatory/compliance issues. She has also performed numerous claim audits on insureds and cedants, as well as designed claim audit programs for claims across a variety of exposures.

Romy has developed an expertise in long tail claims, such as asbestos, environmental contamination and various health hazard losses with particular focus in evaluating current and future liability for use in litigation, settlement, commutation and reinsurance recoveries for both direct and inwards reinsurance. In this regard, she has served as an expert witness in the U.S. and UK in a variety of matters involving the assessment and allocation of mass tort claims: the valuation and timing of insurers’ potential liability; the impact that settlement agreements have on other carriers; and the completeness and accuracy of the underlying claim data. She has also served as the Independent Vote Reviewer on a solvent scheme of arrangement.

Over her career, Romy has developed and implemented technology solutions to enable deep data analytics to support better management decisions, reduce risk and enhance productivity and operational efficiency.

Romy has worked in the Insurance sector for more than 30 years in various senior management roles within professional services companies. In addition to working with senior management in developing and implementing strategic plans to grow an insurance consulting practice, she provided technical expertise in financial analysis, computer modelling, data management and risk and compliance.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Romy was a Partner at Mazars LLP in their Financial Services Consulting team. She led the insurance practice and was the liaison between the actuarial, audit and consulting teams. Prior to Mazars, Romy was the Director of Insurance Services at LECG (f/k/a SMART Business Consulting) based on London.

Romy moved to London in 1997 from New York to be a Senior Director at Axiom Claims Consulting Limited. The practice was divided between transactional processing of high volume low profitability work, and specialized expert claims services. Romy started her career in New York at Grant Thornton.

Romy has a BSE in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from New York University.
