About Ryan
Ryan Newman is a member of the Office of the CFO Solutions practice and specializes in technical accounting and financial reporting. Mr. Newman has more than 25 years of experience advising companies on technical accounting matters, providing interim financial reporting leadership, developing and implementing financial reporting systems and driving financial process improvements.
Mr. Newman has experience across public and private companies in multiple industries, including technology, equipment and car rental, petrochemicals, food service and medical. He has significant experience supporting corporations, private equity and law firms and has worked on financial restatements, spin-offs, special investigations, forensic accounting assignments, Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) reporting, financial statement audits and project management.
Mr. Newman advises on complex accounting matters, including business combinations, bankruptcy and fresh-start accounting, reserves, debt extinguishments and modifications, restructuring, discontinued operations and sales incentives. He has extensive experience with Financial Accounting Standards Board guidance and related interpretations, SEC rules and regulations, Form 10-K and 10-Q preparation and audit support.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Newman was a director at a forensic and litigation consulting firm. He began his career in the assurance practices of two Big Four accounting firms.
Relevant Experience:
- Assisted multiple private chemical processing companies through bankruptcy, including application of fresh-start accounting, pushdown accounting, financial statement preparation and year-end audit and reporting
- Supported numerous companies with multiple acquisitions, including purchase accounting and pushdown accounting
- Led the global month-end close, consolidation and reporting process for a $7 billion publicly traded company with more than 100 operating entities across multiple countries
- Assisted a publicly traded company with the spin-off of a subsidiary into a new standalone public company, including the implementation of a new financial reporting system and automation of the cash flow statement
- Served as interim controller for a private aviation company, including month-end close, financial statement preparation and bank reporting
- Assisted various companies as interim director of financial reporting and technical accounting
