Sammy Markland works in the Dispute Advisory Services practice within the Forensic & Litigation Consulting segment and is a member of FTI Consulting’s multidisciplinary Cannabis practice. Ms. Markland specializes in business valuation, forensic investigations and economic damage analysis in the cannabis industry. She has extensive experience analyzing financial, accounting and market data to help her clients solve complex financial, legal and economic issues.
Ms. Markland has managed numerous engagements involving the valuation of businesses, ownership interests and assets for mergers and acquisitions, pre-IPO analyses, corporate planning and dispute resolution. She has experience in nearly all legal U.S. cannabis markets, medical and adult-use alike, and has worked with private and public companies across U.S., Canadian and other international markets.
Another area of Ms. Markland’s experience includes assisting her clients navigate forensic investigations, including internal investigations of alleged financial misrepresentation and fraud, antitrust violations such as price fixing, internal control review and remediation and accounting restatements. She provides complex financial analysis in high-stakes U.S., international and multinational civil and criminal matters. Specific areas of her financial expertise include disgorgement of economic profit analysis, forensic accounting, asset tracing, ability to pay analysis and fraud examination. Ms. Markland has aided numerous companies facing strict regulatory action by the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Ontario Securities Commission and other international authorities.
Additionally, Ms. Markland has experience determining economic damages for general commercial disputes, including breach of contract, business interruption and destruction, corporate disputes and breach of fiduciary duty. In addition to cannabis, her practice spans industries such as construction, real estate, transportation, automotive, consumer product goods and healthcare.
