Scott Schneider

Scott Schneider is a Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s Strategic Communications segment and is based in Washington D.C. Mr. Schneider advises executives, boards and corporate counsel on high-stakes communications matters arising from government investigations and enforcement actions, complex litigation, labor issues, operational crises and other enterprise-threatening events.

Working alongside general counsel, outside counsel and executive leadership, Mr. Schneider develops communications approaches that support legal objectives, protect enterprise value and anticipate regulatory and media scrutiny. He has worked on matters involving the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”), Department of Justice, Commodity Futures Trading Commission (“CFTC”), Federal Trade Commission, National Transportation Safety Board and other authorities.

Mr. Schneider is a former senior official at both the SEC and CFTC and an attorney. At the SEC, he served as Counselor to the Chair and Director of the Office of Public Affairs, where he oversaw agency-wide communications, enforcement and litigation messaging, rulemaking rollouts, crisis response and media relations. He worked closely with the SEC’s Enforcement Division on the public rollout of hundreds of litigated and settled matters. At the CFTC, he served as Director of Public Affairs and led agency communications immediately after the global financial crisis and during the implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Schneider led financial communications at a global communications consultancy, where he advised public and private companies on corporate transactions, IPOs, earnings and investor engagement, as well as complex crises. He continues to maintain strong relationships with leading national business, legal and financial reporters and understands how stories develop, how leaks and regulatory disclosures are interpreted and how messages can be misread in the public domain.

Mr. Schneider holds a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in political science from the University of Redlands.
