Sean McDermott is a highly credentialed expert and leader in the fields of information security, digital forensics, investigations and litigation support. Mr. McDermott brings more than 20 years of experience in these fields, and his breadth of knowledge ensures consistent and reliable results for clients in both the government and private sectors.
Mr. McDermott has spent his career working with all aspects of digital technology and relies upon this expertise to assist clients in navigating complex investigations, large-scale litigation, intellectual property and trade secret theft, worldwide coordinated evidence preservation requests, government and civil subpoena responses, cloud-based and on-premise systems design, implementation, risk mitigation and security, intricate forensic interrogation and analysis of digital devices and data across a multitude of platforms and challenging environments. His current and former clients include Fortune 500 companies, large law firms, hospitals, banks, casinos and U.S. government agencies, including the Executive Branch, Department of Defense, Department of Justice and state and local municipalities.
Mr. McDermott has built and managed large technical programs from design to implementation and consults top firms and corporations, training leadership to utilize existing teams and technology more effectively while mitigating risk and enhancing cross-departmental coordination. His steady leadership, coupled with his success managing high-profile engagements, ensures every case is handled with expert knowledge in a defensible, risk-centric manner.
Throughout his career, Mr. McDermott has provided testimony in numerous engagements and has served in leadership positions in corporations and advisory organizations. Prior to joining FTI Technology, he served as the chief testifying expert for the White House in matters of litigation readiness, digital forensics and investigations, where he managed the chain of custody of tens of thousands of digital forensic images. During his tenure at the White House, he also served as a Senior Advisor and confidant to the office of the General Counsel, the Director of White House Information Technology, the National Security Council, the deputy Chief Information Security Officer, the Director of White House Information Governance and with White House Counsel on matters of national security.
Relevant Experience:
- Served as chief testifying expert and special advisor for Executive Office of the President at The White House, for three Presidents of the United States, leveraging expertise in information security, digital forensics and litigation readiness technologies in delivery of comprehensive security consulting services and solutions for mission critical White House programs and systems
- Created and subsequently certified of one of only two FedRamp moderate secure government cloud environments in the litigation support industry, keeping sensitive government information secure for numerous agencies and ensuring integrity of all networks and data was protected from potential threats of unauthorized access
- Worked extensively with United States Secret Service and other agencies in support of the 9/11 terrorist attack response; provided logistical support and supplies, collaborated with internal teams to create known terrorist map of cell phones used, movement of actors and second degree of separation visual map corelating call detail records and SMS messages between terrorist cells operating in America and abroad
