About Shengyu
Ms. Jin has more than 16 years of technology consulting experiences in areas such as e-discovery and analytics, data governance and management. She had led numerous large-scale, cross-border e-discovery projects in several areas of litigation and investigation including telecommunications, pharmaceutical, e-commerce, banking and retail.
One of Ms. Jin's unique strengths is her understanding of both Asian and Western companies' cultures, values and practices, which allows her to bridge the gap between different business cultures and provide tailored solutions to clients. She leverages her knowledge of substantive client goals and technical aspects of electronic discovery to develop creative, efficient, and defensible approaches to meet tight deadlines while reducing costs and mitigating risks. Her ability to simplify the multilayered process of discovery and review management is especially valuable in helping clients plan and manage large volumes of data and various emerging data types.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Ms. Jin worked as a database and business manager at a United States-based intellectual property (“IP”) law firm in Washington, D.C. She led the development and maintenance of an in-house case management system which included docketing and auto-billing functionality for IP prosecution, as well as providing litigation technology support. She possesses a strong understanding of the application of U.S. IP law and is well-versed in the U.S. litigation and arbitration process.
Ms. Jin speaks English and native Mandarin.
Relevant Experience:
- Led and oversaw a complex cross-border project involving a U.S. Department of Justice (“DOJ”) investigation for a major Chinese e-commerce company; managed the project team to collect and process more than 100 custodians’ data, reviewing millions of documents and creating document production, with a specific focus on using analytics and predictive coding to streamline the data review process, and designed a customized review solution for emerging data type such as DingTalk messages
- Led the China review portion related to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) investigation for one of the largest Chinese pharmaceutical companies; collaborated with the company to design a data collection questionnaire to identify relevant data sources and collect data from more than 80 custodians’ data; provided e-discovery software training to more than 30 lawyers and document reviewers and used analytics and predictive coding methods to complete a review of 1.3 million documents within a four-month period; the review population was conducted using search terms and the final results were exported to the United States to meet a tight production deadline
- Managed multiple efforts related to a high-profile, multiyear U.S. export control sanctions case involving a large Chinese telecommunication company; the case involved data from hundreds of custodians located across Asia, Europe, North America and South America; this project won the “Best Project” award at FTI Consulting and Ms. Jin was recognized as one of the lead consultants on the project for her exceptional contributions
