Sophia Setterberg

Sophia Setterberg is a Managing Director in the Public Affairs practice of FTI Consulting’s Strategic Communications segment and is based in Washington, D.C. Ms. Setterberg advises health plans, hospitals, provider organizations, healthcare trade associations and multistakeholder coalitions on policy strategy, regulatory and legislative communications, advocacy campaigns and reputational risk management — helping organizations anticipate challenges, navigate complex healthcare issues and advance strategic objectives in highly scrutinized political and regulatory environments.

Ms. Setterberg is recognized for her ability to translate complex healthcare policy issues into clear, actionable strategies that help organizations engage policymakers, manage risk and advance business and advocacy objectives. She serves as a trusted advisor to communications, public affairs, government affairs, legal and executive leadership teams on issues including managed care, commercial insurance, prescription drug policy and the shifting federal policy and regulatory environment. By combining policy expertise, stakeholder intelligence and strategic communications, Ms. Setterberg helps organizations prepare for uncertainty and respond effectively, transforming technical policy concepts into persuasive narratives that build credibility and advance policy priorities.

Ms. Setterberg has directed research initiatives for national coalitions and large-scale advocacy campaigns and has extensive experience helping diverse stakeholder groups build alignment around shared policy objectives and unified advocacy strategies. Her engagements span the full lifecycle of policy communications and public affairs strategy. She has developed advocacy campaigns that contributed to the passage of protective legislation, built communications playbooks for organizations facing contentious public debates and high-stakes negotiations, and advised clients navigating congressional investigations and heightened legislative scrutiny. Her work helps leaders make informed decisions, manage risk and communicate with confidence during critical moments.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Ms. Setterberg served on the Federal and State Health Policy team at The Commonwealth Fund, supporting education and outreach for members of Congress, state Medicaid directors and gubernatorial staff on healthcare costs, access and affordability, Medicare, Medicaid and prescription drug policy. Her career is rooted in formative public service experiences spanning Capitol Hill and the U.S. Department of Defense.

Ms. Setterberg is an active member of Women in Government Relations. She holds a B.A. in Political Science and Community Health from Tufts University and is conversational in Spanish.
