Spencer Ante is a Managing Director in the Strategic Communications segment at FTI Consulting based in New York City. Spencer serves as the head of the Content and Creative team in the Digital and Insights practice in the Americas, an interdisciplinary team that leverages data, creative, editorial and digital media capabilities to create integrated campaigns and content programs that enhance corporate reputation and drive business results.
Previous to FTI Consulting, Spencer was EVP of Digital Content and Editorial Strategy at Weber Shandwick where he served as content lead for the X Practice across North America and co-leader of the global IBM account. Before Weber, Spencer was an Editorial Director and SVP at Edelman who led the creation and development of its Collaborative Journalism Group. In both roles, he served as a trusted advisor for the C-suite on corporate transformation, M&A, crisis, messaging, social media, cybersecurity, financial and regulatory affairs, media and message training. Spencer has worked with brands such as Samsung, Comcast, Bloomberg, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, American Express, Guggenheim Partners and others.
Spencer brings 20 years of newsroom management experience from some of the world’s leading media outlets to the field of communications and marketing, as well as deep expertise in video, digital, social and mobile media.
Before Edelman, Spencer was an award-winning journalist who most recently worked at The Wall Street Journal as a Senior Special Writer on its technology team, and as a Deputy Bureau Chief for the Journal’s largest bureau responsible for global business coverage. In 2012, he was part of a team of journalists nominated for Pulitzer Prize in explanatory reporting for a series on privacy in the digital age, which won the 2011 Sigma Delta Chi Award for Public Service Journalism.
Prior to that, Spencer worked out of San Francisco and Silicon Valley for BusinessWeek, TheStreet.com, Wired and Netscape. At BusinessWeek, he helped launch its first set of blogs, and launched and produced its first weekly original online video series on tech news and trends. Spencer's 2006 story “Meet the Hackers” won Deadline Club Award from the Society for Professional Journalists for Science, Technology Reporting. Spencer is a LinkedIn Influencer with 57,000 followers and author of Creative Capital: Georges Doriot and the Birth of Venture Capital (Harvard Business School Press, 2008).
Spencer holds a Masters in Journalism from the University of California at Berkeley and a B.S. in Business Economics and Public Policy from the Kelley School at Indiana University and lives in Maplewood, NJ with his wife and two kids.
