Steve Schoonveld

Steve Schoonveld is a Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s Global Insurance Services practice with more than 30 years of experience in the Long-Term Care (“LTC”), Disability and Accident & Health Insurance industries. In particular, he brings a deep knowledge and understanding of private and public long-term care solutions, services and supports to the practice.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Steve was Head of Industry Partnerships & LTC Resource Solutions with Lincoln Financial Group as an Assistant Vice President, MoneyGuard Business Management. Prior to this role, he was the Head of Linked Benefit Product Solutions, and served as the lead LTC architect for the company’s hybrid long-term care and industry leading MoneyGuard products. Steve led the development of the industry’s first LTC Concierge Care program to support members and their families as they age-in-place through wellness and care support tools and education.

Preceding Steve's time at Lincoln Financial, Steve was the Chief Financial Officer and Actuary at LifePlans, Inc, now the Long-Term Care Group. There, he led the Policyholder Administration, Actuarial Consulting and Claims Management practices in addition to corporate responsibilities as CFO, for the Finance, Human Resources, Compliance and Legal departments.

Steve is an active contributor to the long-term care industry. Most recently, he was a presenter at the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (“NAIFA”), the Intercompany Long-Term Care Insurance (“ILTCI”), Society of Actuaries (“SOA”) and the American Academy of Actuaries (“the Academy”) conferences on Hybrid Product Risk Management, Professionalism and Public/Private Long-Term Care programs. He also co-wrote the hybrid section of the Certification for Long-Term Care (“CLTC”) program. He served as a panelist at the December 2019 session “The State of Long-Term Care Insurance,” co-sponsored by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (“NAIC”) and the Center for Insurance Policy Research. He also presented “A Primer on Hybrid Long-Term Care Insurance” to the NAIC Senior Issues Task Force and the Long-Term Care Actuarial Working Group during the 2019 NAIC Summer Session.

Steve has worked closely with colleagues as a member of trade and industry work groups. In 2022 he served on the WA Cares Supplemental Private LTCi Work Group to provide guidance to the Commission. As a member of the American Council of Life Insurers (“ACLI”) Long-Term Care and Federal Legislative Strategy Group committees, he worked with industry colleagues on issues and chaired the Hybrid Product Subgroup. He is the current President of the ILTCI Conference Board and Chair of the 2023 conference. As a member of the Academy’s Long-Term Care Public Policy group, he works with colleagues to address industry and societal issues including LTC public policy reform. He has also served as a Chair of both the Long-Term Care Insurance and the Social Insurance & Public Finance Section Councils of SOA.
